Edalat, a professor at London’s Imperial College was reportedly arrested and detained
A British-Iranian Professor, Abbas Edalat has been arrested in Iran on security charges. This was confirmed by the spokesman for Iran’s judiciary, Gholamhossein Mohseni Ejehi. Edalat, a professor at London’s Imperial College was reportedly arrested and detained while attending an academic workshop in Tehran. The foreign is office is said to be urgently looking into the reports of his arrest. An Iranian news agency reported that Edalat was part of a “network” of British spies whose members have been identified and arrested in Iran on Thursday.
According to state broadcaster, Ejehi told reporters in Tehran on sunday that “I confirm his arrest on security charges, but I am unable to give details.”The Center for Human Rights in Iran (CHRI) said Edalat, a professor of computer science and mathematics was detained by the Iranian Revolutionary Guards. The group said guards had confiscated a computer, CDs and notebooks during the arrest. He had been a founder of anti-war protest group that opposed sanctions and punishments in Iran. Imperial College has been said to be concerned for his welfare and urgently seeking further information on his arrest.
