While Sanwo-Olu via his official Twitter handle noted that the state bus BRT will never be involved in the thuggery attacks on Alausa protesters today, the State Government has tagged the youths’ reports wicked, and the youths are not having neither of these.
In a statement put out via the Lagos State Government’s official Twitter handle in a series of tweets, the State Government claimed that the bus seen in the was on its normal operation when it ran into a group of protesters, and not conveying thugs as reported. See video below:
The statement added that the passengers, who felt endangered, rushed out of the bus and later returned to continue their journey after the charging crowd had left. It then added that as a government, the State will never encourage thuggery or any act of violence that may put the lives and businesses of Lagosians at risk. The attention of the Lagos State Government has been drawn to some unverified reports in the social media alleging that the government-sponsored thugs to disrupt the #EndSARS protest. This is untrue and wicked.”, the statement began. Read also: My Government Will Never Tolerate The Attacks – Sanwo-Olu
“Such wild allegations were obviously concocted by enemies of peace and orderliness to whip up sentiments against the government, which has been doing everything possible to resolve the crisis by identifying with our youths in their efforts towards police reforms. Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has been preaching peace. So has the Deputy Governor, who addressed the protesters last Friday. The Governor has addressed them twice – at the Lekki Toll Gate and at the House of Assembly.”, the statement continued. The youths are, however, not taking the reports as they share the videos of the thugs alighting and the Government for “telling lies”. They further share pictures of men of the Nigerian Police standing by and watching the scenario without any move. See some of their reactions below:
