Team UNIBEN Set New Continental Record As First African University To Reach Petrobowl Championship Final

The University of Benin’s two-man-team made Africa proud when they won the silver medal in the 2017 Petrobowl Championship of the Society of Petroleum Engineers Annual Technical Conference and Exhibition held in San Antonio, Texas, USA.
This is the first time in the history of the competition that an African institution will reach to the final stage. The Uniben team breezed past: King Fahd University of Petroleum and Mineral Resources, Saudi Arabia, Federal University of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, University of Tulsa, Oklahoma, U.S.A and Batangas State University, Phillipines to reach the final stage. They came second place in the final match against Universidad Nacional Autonoma de Mexico (UNAM).
The Vice-chancellor of the university, Prof. Osasere Orumwense, thanked them for making Uniben proud and encouraged them to continue to soar higher. The initial five-man Uniben team were reduced to two when three members were left out due to visa restrictions. The full team include: Okon Samuel Iniobong, Osogba Oghenekaro, Oseghale Aloysius, Anyaezu Tobenna, Henry Monday Oguns and Thompson Edidiong.
