The Federal Government of Nigeria has announced that the teaching of mathematics and other science subjects in indigenous Nigerian languages in both primary and secondary schools across the country will soon begin.
The Director-General of the National Centre for Technology Management, Prof. Okechukwu Ukwuoma, disclosed this during a retreat organised for researchers in Akure, Ondo State.
Ukwuoma, stated that experts have been contracted to translate terminologies in the concerned subjects to the various indigenous languages spoken in the country.
He said: “Last year, the Minister of Science and Technology and the Minister of Education inaugurated a committee to teach science and mathematics in indigenous languages. The major issue in that regard is the translation of terminologies to the languages for which we have consulted experts in different languages in the country.”
