Teacher ‘Fired’ Over Nude Selfie To Boyfriend…Which Somehow Ends Up In The Hands Of Her Students

A teacher was fired when an old topless selfie she sent to an ex-boyfriend resurfaced – into the hands of a student. Lauren Miranda, a 25-year-old former mathematics teacher at Bellport Middle School, Long Island, was sacked after a student somehow obtained the image, according to her lawyer, John Ray.Now Miranda has filed a $3 million (£2.3m) gender discrimination lawsuit following her dismissal last Wednesday, reports the New York Post. Mr Ray said officials wrongfully treated Miranda over the intimate image which was sent to her then-partner who was another teacher at a different school. They eventually fired her for not being a proper school “role model”. But at a press conference Ms Miranda said the image was obtained without her consent — and asserts there was nothing inherently offensive about it. Referring to the image, which shows her wearing a blue towel, she said: “It’s pure. I’m getting makeup in one hand, and I’m taking a picture in the other.” Ms Miranda said she had previously sent the photo to her ex-boyfriend but was flummoxed about how the student got hold of it.Mr Ray said:  “Long ago, she sent her topless unremarkable selfie to her companion, never to anyone else. By unknown means, a student obtained it. The school district took possession of it, excoriated her, and fired her because her breasts were displayed.” Mr Ray contends a male teacher would not have been subjected to the same treatment in similar circumstances and that she wants her job back. Mr Ray said: “This would never have happened to a male teacher. The Suffolk County Administrators and School Board have not yet discovered that women are equal to men. Lauren is rightly proud of her female torso. A woman’s breasts are not inherently prurient.”Miranda said she wanted to fight back in order to provide a strong example to her former students. She said: “What kind of role model am I, to now roll over and hide? I am showing my face and saying something happened to me that I didn’t want.” Citing pending litigation, district officials declined to comment.Photo Credit: Getty
