TBT: Throwback To When ‘Suwe’ Was Everyone’s Favourite Game

It’s almost impossible to see any child that grew up in Nigeria around the 90s that doesn’t know what ‘Suwe’ is; this is because the game is one of the most popular games that every Nigerian child was used to back then.

I can still remember waiting for them to ring the bell during break-time in school so that I could just play this game. We will draw line on the ground, mostly in a rectangular shape, and find something throwable to start up the game. Someone will always go first and the throwable item will be thrown to the appropriate hole in the line.

Like every other games, suwe also has its on rule such as the fact that you are not allowed to step on the line as you can only step inside the hole and by stepping, it doesn’t mean that you are using your two legs. You can only use one of your legs except when you are at the end of the line. The line could actually be drawn into two columns and six rows.

After completing all the columns, you are opportuned to build a house within the hole and the player with the largest numbers of house at the end of the game becomes the winner.
