TBT: 5 TV Classic Drama Series That Will Leave You Nostalgic

Nigerians are creative people, and it shows in our art, from our music, to our books and our movies, there is always that presence of creativity. In honoring that creativity, we decided to bring you TV shows produced way back that were audience favorite.

These TV dramas and series are at the heart of Nigerian culture and history. They represent us. They tell our stories. In a sense, they are more than just TV contents, they are our truth.

Here are 5 TV drama series that will leave you nostalgic.

1.The Village HeadmasterThe series ran from 1968 to 1988, a two decade period, making it the longest series to be shown on the National Television Authority (NTA).

The series had such great names and faces in its cast including late Justus Esiri, Funsho Adeolu, Dejumo Lewis, Enebeli Elebuwa and others.

The series addressed issues such as culture and ethnic integration, family issues and affairs, education and the general well-being of society.

2. Papa Ajasco and Company.

Created by Wale Adenuga, the series which still runs today, has been in existence since 1996. However, according to reports, it had been an initial movie in 1983, before it was adapted for a TV series.

 It stars the famous characters, ‘Papa Ajasco’, ‘Mama Ajasco’, ‘Bobo Ajasco’, ‘Boy Alinco’, ‘Miss Pepeiye’, and ‘Pa James’.

3.  Fuji House of CommotionTBT: Classic TV Drama SeriesIt started in the 2000s as an offshoot of Checkmate, a 1990s series. Directed and produced by Amaka Igwe, it showed the hilarious state of a polygamous family.

It had names such as Ngozi  Nwosu, Kunle Bamtefa amongst others. It remains one of the most loved comedy series ever shown on Nigerian TV.

4. I Need To KnowThe series starred popular actress, Funke Akindele. It was sponsored by the United Nations Population Fund and addressed issues that teenagers were bound to face.

These issues include sex at a young age, pregnancy and complications, and the general outlook on life.The series ram from 1997 to 2002.

5. Everyday PeopleLike the title of the series, it revolved around the life of everyday people; their happiness, sadness, their stories.

It had an assemblage of movie stars including late Sam Loco Efe, Nobert Young, Desmond Elliot, Ejiro Okurame, Seun Soremi, Big Tony amongst others.
