TASUED On Fire!!! Military Arrests SUG President, As Authority Shuts Down School

Students of Tai Solarin University of Education (TASUED) are currently protesting the arrest and beating up of some students including the school’s Students’ Union President Sodiq Ridwan (SUG president) by men of the Nigerian Military.

The breakdown of law and order in the school is reported to have started after some students who are claimed to be “Yahoo boys” during their signing out after their final exams went gaga and started an obscene display of money driving around the school, arriving at school field flaunting and displaying money which forced a reaction from the Dean of the College of Vocational Technology and Dean of Students Affairs Adejoye who is alleged to have hit one of the girlfriends of the celebrating students and in reaction to this the boyfriend of the girl hit slapped the Dean of COVTED.

This is believed to have led to a major fracas and led to the school’s security locking down the school preventing the students from driving out, according to the report one of the said students came down and broke open the school gate and the students made their escape.

The following day military men arrived on the school campus doing a stop and search of cars and mobile phones, with claims that the military arrested some students and extorted N50,000 from them and those who could not pay were detained and taken away.

These extrajudicial arrests are the reason why the Student’s Union officers upon hearing the ugly development ran to the scene of the acts and on reaching the scene of the military operations they were alleged to be met with strong resistance, and in their press to fight for the rights of the students exploited the Students’ Union President, Sodiq Ridwan was alleged to have been assaulted and arrested by the military.

Earlier today students of the school gather to protest the arrest of its SUG and the exploitation of some of the students, and in reaction to this, the school has been shut down till further notice.

It is important to note that some final year students of the school, are still taking their final papers and are still stuck in the school environment stuck in the eye of the storm of a major crisis, which TASUED school management have obviously lost control of the situation.
