Music Review: T-Classic’s Underrated EP Lacks The Much Needed Drive

T-Classic came into the music industry and took us all with strange surprise with his hit song, Nobody Fine Pass You. We screamed because that was a breath of fresh air in the music scene.

So, with T-Classic’s debut EP album, we were expecting to be entirely blown away, ironically, we bumped and nodded our heads a few times, but there was no wild dancing, no snapping of fingers, no screaming “Mad Oh”.
Most times, people expect an artiste’s first body of work to be in between being good and poor, basically just average, because after all, the young musician is finding his foot.
However, we will not be using such a yardstick to measure this album. The album is filled with okay songs, songs that you vibe to and forget after a while. We do not see the album surviving too long in the mind of Nigerians. A song or two might sell and hit big but the rest will easily fade into obscurity.

We must however admire the brain behind the album, the team who decided that instead of putting out a full album, an EP is the best way to go. This is a tactical move, considering the fact that the Nigerian music space is crowded with jams. It is wise to drop an EP and watch how it fares, decide if the audience likes, find it appealing, then choose to tow that line.

Interestingly, the production which is done by IamBeatz and Killlertunes are fire. They bring fire to the table and help create a strong vibe for the album.

One problem is that in this album we are left searching for T-Classic because he sounds too much like Kizz Daniel. In the first track, Lykadu, one must ask, is it a remix of Yes or No because it sounds too similar. The production, the mixing; sounds too familiar.
The song with Peruzzi and Mayorkun doesn’t not have the stamp the DMW boys are known to bring. It is a poor feel. A personal favorite is the last song, Why. T-Classic shows why he deserves a space in our hearts.
Summarily, the album has potential but lacks that drive, that push that will keep it long on music charts, that’s if it even gets there. We hope the Isabella man hits us with that banger that will leave us high for days.
