Sweden 1 Vs Switzerland 0: Emil Forsberg Sends Sweden Into Quarter-Finals

Sweden are through to the World Cup quarter-finals after beating Switzerland 1-0 on Tuesday.

RB Leipzig winger, Emil Forsberg’s winner sends Sweden through to the quarter-finals of the World Cup for the first time since USA ’94, and they will face the winner of England Vs Colombia round of 16 games, in last eight. Forsberg’s 66th-minute shot was deflected into the top corner to give Sweden lead, as Switzerland’s Michael Lang was sent off for a late foul in the clash that took place at the Saint Petersburg Stadium, Russia.

Switzerland have never won a World Cup knockout match after seven appearances, while Sweden won back to back matches for the first time since 1958. Sweden captain, Andreas Granqvist recently disclosed that the team has stepped forward despite losing Zlatan Ibrahimovic. “We have built a foundation in the last two years through the qualifiers, we fight for each other and as a team, we know when we do that we get good results,” said Granqvist. “We have stepped forwards despite losing one of the world’s best football players. We have done a good job and you can see that now we are in the last 16 of the World Cup.”
