The Met Gala, or Met Ball, formally called the Costume Institute Gala or the Costume Institute Benefit, is an annual fundraising gala held for the benefit of the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute in New York City. 
The theme for this year was In America: An Anthology of Fashion. The dress code for this year’s Met Gala was “Gilded Glamour and White Tie” which referenced the lavish era of the last decades of the 19th Century.

The gilded age was between 1870-and 1900. The word ‘gilded’ was formed by Mark Twain and Charles Dudley Warner in 1873. Gilded means glittery and shiny on the outside with corruption underneath.

The fashion of that area was heavy on embroidery, lace, silk, pleating and sleeves and exaggerated hips and buttocks at the Met Gala 2022.
