Kylian Mbappe believes Spain are still favorite to win this summer World Cup despite the sacking off their head coach, Julen Lopetegui.
“[They are still a favourite] because they’ve won everything and are used to these major tournaments,” the French forward said during a press conference on Wednesday. “We spoke about it for a couple of minutes during our camp because it was in the news, but those on the pitch will be the same. They also want to win and they’ll be the same. They’ll have a different coach, but the players are very competitive and will be determined to win.”
MabThe Spanish FA replaced Lopetegui with Real Madrid legend, Fernando Hierro on Wednesday, and the new La Roja coach will have his first test in less than 24 hours in their opening game with Portugal. “It is a nice challenge and an exciting one, the circumstances are what they are and from now on I accept the responsibility bravely, it can’t be any other way,” Hierro said in his introductory press conference in Krasnodar where the team is based. France begin their own bid for glory against Australia on Saturday. Kylian Mbappe recently played down an injury scare after he limped out of training on Tuesday.
