The singer’s family confirmed that she passed away in the early hours of today surrounded by her close relatives. “The family are deeply saddened to announce the passing of one of Britain’s best-loved entertainers at the age of 103,”. They shared in their official statement.

Dame Vera was best known for performing for the troops during World War Two in countries including India and Burma.  TV host Piers Morgan also mourned the passing of the  great singer and  wrote on Instagram: “Oh no…. what terribly sad news. Dame Vera Lynn has died, aged 103. A magnificent woman who rallied our country when we most needed it. The Forces sweetheart. The Nation’s sweetheart. RIP.”
