The meeting of the National Executive Council (NEC) of the Association of Senior Civil Servant of Nigeria (ASCSN) which was held at the Chida Hotel, Abuja on Tuesday, November 13, has the president of the Trade Union Congress (TUC), Bobboi Bala Kaigama, revealing that workers are patiently waiting for the president to forward the bill to National Assembly for its passage and would not appreciate any delay. According to a report by Daily Trust reports Kaigama said the organised labour’s expectation is that the full implementation of the N30,000 new minimum wage should not exceed December.  He backed this up by saying that: “It is on this premise that I strongly want to appeal to the Federal Government to fast track the process of enacting the new National Minimum Wage into law,”. He also added that the government should be able to complete the entire process before the end of this year and he regrets that engine room of the government, that is, the civil service, is the least paid in the public service, while other segments have their emoluments increased over the years. With regards to this, it was previously gathered that the federal government on Sunday, November 4, gave reasons why it cannot meet the N30,000 wage being demanded by the unions. Addressing the issue of minimum wage and why he the reconciliatory meeting was called, SGF Boss Mustafa, said the meeting was part of the exercise that ought to be undertaken to ensure that there was a complete report to be submitted to the presidency on the issues relating to the minimum wage.Photo Credit: Getty
