Saddening images show a mother losing her footing on an escalator and accidentally dropping her baby over the handrail.
The four-month-old tot fell two storeys to the shopping centre floor and died, according to reports. It happened at Zhenxing Shopping Square in Changping, southern China, on Saturday. Security camera footage captured the moment the child slipped from the mother’s arms. She can be seen stepping on the escalator with her older son by her side and her baby cradled in her left arm.
Then she stumbles forwards and the infant falls out of her grasp and over the railing. The shocked mum and brother can then be seen sprinting down the steps. Another clip seconds later shows the pair crying on the floor near where the baby fell. Authorities said paramedics rushed to help but in the end could not save the child, who was declared dead. The police are investigating.
