Senegal Name Stadium After Sadio Mane After Africa Cup of Nations Glory

Sadio Mane will have a brand new stadium named after him in his home town after leading Senegal to Africa Cup of Nations glory in Cameroon.

The Liverpool superstar scored the final penalty as his country beat Egypt in a shootout to win AFCON for the first time in their history.

The 29-year-old also scored three goals in the tournament and was unsurprisingly a talisman for the side as they battled their way to glory.

He will now have a new arena built in his name and it is already under construction in Sedhiou and will open next year.

Abdoulaye Diop, mayor of Sedhiou, said: Sadio Mane has honoured all of Senegal, the Sedhiou region and the entire Casamance area.

‘I have decided to name the Sedhiou stadium after him.

‘In doing so I wish to convey the gratitude of all the sons and daughters of the region towards him.

‘He has made all of mankind aware of Bambali and Sedhiou, the region’s main town.

‘This is a gift that Sadio Mane truly deserves.’

Mane is now back in England after his exploits in Cameroon and has returned to Liverpool training, alongside Mohamed Salah, who was left disappointed by the loss on penalties in the final for his Egypt side.

Salah already featured in the 2-0 win over Leicester on Thursday night and Mane is expected to be back in the Liverpool squad on Sunday when they travel to Burnley.
