Senator Dino Melaye has been arrested by operatives of the Special Anti Robbery Squad (SARS) in Abuja.
The APC senator representing Kogi West, was this morning, and he has been moved to SARS Headquarters in Guzape, Abuja, Vanguard confirmed, adding that Melaye “sounded rattled as background conversation suggested a struggle between himself and some of the operatives after which his mobile lines were switched off.”
The SARS detention facility which Melaye is presently held, is well-known for imprisoning hardened criminals arrested for theft, murder, cultism and other criminal acts.
Recall that on Monday morning Melaye was apprehended by officials of the Nigerian Immigration Service (NIS) on a Morroco-bound flight, for an official engagement sponsored by the Federal Government at the Nnamdi Azikwe Airport in Abuja.
Following his release for the NIS office at the airport, Melaye took to Twitter to disclose that over “30 heavily armed fierce looking mobile policemen” have just stormed his residence in Maitama, Abuja. The Kogi senator also claimed his brother and a friend were arrested by the police in front of his house.
On April 3, the Nigeria Police Force warned the Senator representing Kogi, Dino Melaye, to appear in court ahead of his arraignment on May 10, 2018. The Police had on March 24, 2018, issued an invitation and a court summon had been issued to Senator Melaye, both of which he did not honour.
“I will make myself available to the police today,” Melaye tweeted this morning (April 24). “My resolve to speak the truth and defend the poor masses of NIGERIA is Total. We shall overcome.”
“A man without arm, no security yet you mobilise 150 policemen to invite him. And those who committed Treason are free. We shall not be intimidated or cowed. Struggle continue.”
