It was a good time to be a fan of Nigerian music in July 2016. A particular Pana song by a particular Tekno was released in the month…Adekunle Gold was still dropping bangers through YBNL…and our favourite DJ had just broken the world record. On 2nd of July 2016, DJ Obi officially set a new world record of 10 days for longest DJ set, smashing the previous record set in 2014 by 40 hours. But while the previous record lasted for 2 years, his was not given the same period of grace.
American DJ Colossus has now surpassed DJ Obi’s record by 3 hours and 56 seconds. He officially broke the record at 1:00 PM April 30th, having begun his set Thursday, April 20 in Louisville, Kentucky US. Colossus was allowed a five-minute break for every hour completed. His feat has now being officially certified by the record keepers.
