Schoolboy Has Carried His Disabled Best Friend On His Back To Class Everyday For SIX Years

A young student in China has been praised for carrying his friend to class every day for the past six years. Xu Bingyang, 12, carries Zhang Ze to school come rain or shine and even helps piggyback him between classes and to lunch. Both from Meishan city in south-western China’s Sichuan Province the pair struck up a friendship and have been inseparable since first grade. Zhang Ze has suffered from a condition known as myasthenia gravis – also known as rag doll disease – since he was aged four. The incurable condition causes the schoolboy to lose all control of the muscles in his leg and cannot walk on his own. With the help of his loyal friend, Zhang has been able to attend school along with other six graders at the Hebazi Town Central Primary School in Qingshen. Zhang says he is eternally grateful for Xu’s help “Xu Bingyang is my best friend. Every day, he studies with me, chats with me and plays with me. [I] thank him for looking after me like this every day,” Zhang told Sichuan Online. Despite his onerous physical efforts every day, Xu says it is a pleasure to be his friend’s “walking stick.” Xu said: “I am bigger than him. I thought if I didn’t help him, nobody else would. I weigh more than 40kg (88 pounds) and Zhang Ze only weighs about 25kg (55 pounds), so it’s okay for me to carry him,” Xu said. His mother says she was initially unaware about his thoughtful actions and only found out after other pupils told her. Teachers at his school say the modest student is a role model for other children at their school. “For so many years, [Xu] has continued doing good deeds and never complained in front of the teachers and classmates,’ his teacher told Sichuan Online.Photo Credit: Getty
