25-year-old Bangladeshi maid Sumi Akter working for a family in Saudi Arabia has managed to cry out for help, alleging her employers of physical and sexual assault.
In a shocking video which she secretly filmed and released on her Facebook page, she tearfully narrated her ordeal of being sexually abused, burnt in hot oil and then tied up. Noting that she has been locked up in a dark room for 15days without food or drinks and may not live longer, she begged to be allowed to go home to Bangladesh. Read also:Â Shocker! “I perhaps won’t live longer. Please save me. They locked me up for 15 days and barely gave me any food. They burned my hands with hot oil and tied me up. They took me from one home to another one. In the first home, they tortured me and hit me repeatedly and then took me to another one where I experienced the same. I don’t think I’m going to live. I think I’m going to die. They have beaten and tortured me. Please save me, just take me away from here.” See her video below:
According to BRAC, one of the world’s largest charities which is working to have her home, the maid’s phone has been seized as a result of the video. She is still living in Jeddah at the moment. Authorities in her home country called for her to be repatriated and there have been protests in Bangladesh capital, Dhaka.
BRAC revealed that 48 female workers’ bodies were brought back to Bangladesh from Saudi Arabia this year resulting from maltreatment and torture.
