Samuel Umtiti has completed his new five-year deal with Barcelona.
The 24-year-old defender left France’s international camp to pen the new deal and also discuss with the media, before returning to Paris to continue Les Bleus’ preparations for the World Cup. The contract has a release clause of 500 million euros. “I’m very happy and proud to renew with Barcelona and I’m actually a little nervous about it because it means my dream continues,” Umtiti said. “From my first day here, I’ve felt at home and now I get to stay.”
“I’m very happy, happy at the club and in the city. I have the confidence of everyone here and I couldn’t leave. This is my home.
“Many things have been said, but my priority was always to renew and I’ve always said that, I wanted to remain at my home. My dream is to play with the best at the best club in the world.”
Umtiti disclosed his best moment since arriving Camp Nou is the club’s historical comeback against PSG, while his worst game is ‘definitely’ the defeat to Roma that ended their race in the 2017/18, both in the Champions League. The Frenchman who joined Barca from Lyon for 25 million euros in 2016, was on target in France 3-1 win against Italy on Friday, with Antoine Griezmann and Ousmane Dembele also on the scoresheet.
“I couldn’t see myself at another team. I’m happy and I just want to continue playing and winning titles here (Barcelona),” he adds.
