Salary Is Not For Acquiring Assets – Abuja-based Doctor

Nigerian Doctor Idorenyin Hilary Usoh has said salaries are not meant for acquiring assets and rather, a side business is meant to serve that purpose. Dr Usoh said this in response to a music producer Its Adey’s tweet, where he schooled salary earners how long they have to save to acquire a property in Lekki phase 1.
“If you earn 500k a month and don’t spend a single naira from your salary, it’ll take you 20 years to buy a very small semi detached property on 400sqm in lekki phase1. Fun times”, Its Adey wrote on Twitter.

Commenting on the statement, Dr Usoh first asked why one must acquire a property in Lekki phase one, saying it is overreaching. She advised that people start small by buying properties, sell them and recycle enough times till enough to buy one in Lekki Phase 1. She then added that salaries are not for acquiring assets but businesses that can fund the dream lifestyle.

“Why must you buy a property in Lekki Phase 1? That one is overreaching please. Start small, sell and buy another. Then recycle enough times to buy in Lekki Phase 1. Besides, salaries are not for acquiring assets. That’s why we all need a side business that can fund our dream lifestyle”, she wrote.
