Sad! Mothers And Babies Detained In A Lagos Hospital Because They Could Not Pay Delivery Charges

Alimosho General Hospital, Igando, Lagos has detained eight nursing mothers because they couldn’t afford to pay up their delivery charges after being attended to. Due to this, the management of the hospital has restricted these women from leaving the Maternity and Child Complex (MCC) in the Hospital premises.
The said mothers have even been given uniforms for proper identification, and they have monitors (security officials and nurses) watching them closely so they don’t exit the MCC.
Fatai Mohammaed who was initially among the detained women has smartly left the general hospital with the help of her spouse, leaving Mrs Basirat Kosoko; Mrs Anna Igoga and Mrs Funmilayo Adegboyega who are both petty traders and other women in the plight.
A similar incident occurred between November 16 and December 10, 2017 at Akure. An Okada rider, Oladapo Omotosho narrated how his baby, Temitope Omotosho and wife,Taiwo Omotosho were detained for 22days by the management of the Ondo state hospital, because he couldn’t meet up with the payment of their N40,000 hospital bill.
Mr Omotosho who honestly stated that the hospital had already waive an initial amount of N15,000 bill upon knowing his financial strength, also said that his wife and child experienced untold hardship during the detention.
Eventually, Nigerians out of charity funded the family, and they were able to get out of detention.
According to the Okada rider, Mr Oladapo, the Hospital was also in debt of N26million for the supply of drugs and other items required for operation in the hospital. We guess this may also be the plight of Alimosho General Hospital, and because of this, they keenly get patients committed to paying up their hospital bills.
Soon, we hope that Nigerians would also help these detained Uganda babies and mummies out, so they can freely move on with their lives.
