A total of 17 countries booked a place in greatest football tournament of all time after yesterday’s array of matches. Russia leads the pack after securing an automatic ticket as the hosting team.
The Persian Stars of Iran are the first team to competitively secure a place in Russia after their 2-2 draw against Syria. The draw placed them on top of group A with an amazing 22 points in 10 games. South Korea snatched the second ticket as Group A runners-up after their 0-0 draw with Uzbekistan.
The Blue Samurai’s of Japan picked the third ticket after their 2-0 victory over Australia in August. Their away defeat to Saudi Arabia in their last fixture of the qualifiers could not stop them from booking a place in Russia. Unsurprisingly, Saudi Arabia qualified as runner-up in the group. Australia picked the last AFC ticket as they defeated Syria in Tuesday 2-1 thriller.
