Russia 2018: Recap Of All The World Cup Action Over The Weekend

Mexico, Belgium and England sealed their spot in the knockout stage of the 2018 FIFA world cup with a series of goal filled wins over the weekend.

Mexico 2-1 South Korea

A penalty goal from Carlos Vela and a 66th minute finisher from Javier Hernandez were enough to take all three points from South Korea, who didn’t play terribly but were fairly toothless up front. Tottenham’s Son Heung Ming scored a fine late consolation goal, but was not enough to halt the Mexican fleet as his teammates struggled to find their feet in the match.

Belgium 5-2 Tunisia

Two braces and a final goal form three Chelsea acquaints, Lukaku, Hazard and Batshuayi sent Reborto Martinez’ Belgium to the knockout stage of the world cup as they sent Tunisia out of the tournament.
Hazard opened the scoring in the 6th minute with a well deserved penalty kick. Lukaku added a brace shortly after before Hazard and Batshuayi rounded off the match for Belgium in a performance that reminded the world of their dominant spirit.

Germany 2-1 Sweden

The defending champions rescued themselves from an embarrassing early exit from the world cup as Toni Kroos slammed in a late winner for the Germans.
The Germans were stunned from the 32nd minute when Ola Toivonen gave Sweden an early lead, but Germany rolled back to the top with two second half goals from Marco Reus and Toni Kroos.

England 6-1 Panama

An unstoppable performance by Gareth Southgate’s Three Lions left world cup newcomers, Panama, reeling in pains as England breezed past Panama 6-1.
Tottenham’s Harry Kane literally spearheaded the English attack fleet as he slammed an hat-rick into the net for England. A brace from John Stones and a perfect finisher from Jesse Lingard sealed the win for England a rose to the top of Group G.
