Oba Saliu Adetunji, the Olubadan of Ibadan, Oyo state made a proclaimation that no traditional masqueraders in the city must visit any of the high chiefs who were recently elevated by the Oyo State Governor Abiola Ajimobi to the status of an Oba.
Traditionally, the masqueraders are supposed to visit several high chiefs in the state in the forthcoming 2018 Egungun Festival, which was scheduled to start in the city on Monday.

However, a press statement from the media aide of the Olubadan, Adeola Oloko, cited security reasons for the decision. He emphasized on the fact that the masqueraders needed the king’s permission to visit any of the high chiefs. You can read the statement below:

Rising from a two-hour security meeting with stakeholders at his Popoyemoja, Ibadan palace over the weekend, the Olubadan of Ibadan land, Oba Saliu Adetunji, stated that the decision to suspend the masquerade dance this year is in the overall public interest.
Although no reason was given for the last-minute suspension of masquerade dance for Ibadan High Chiefs, it might not be unconnected with security reason arising from the controversial chieftaincy review that confers kingship without domain on high chiefs
