Romelu Lukaku made a sizzling start to life at Old Trafford by banging in a brace as Manchester United hammered West Ham United 4-0 in an emphatic Premier League opener on Sunday. Lukaku, who cost Manchester United £75 million following his transfer from Everton, struck either side of halftime to take his tally for the season to three in two games after his strike in the Uefa Super Cup.
Substitute Anthony Martial added a third late on after neat footwork from playmaker Henrikh Mkhitaryan, while club record signing Paul Pogba wrapped the scoring with a beautiful curling effort from the edge of the area that left Joe Hart beaten in West Ham goal.
United now lead the table on goal difference after the opening day and are looking good for a first title in five years since the retirement of Sir Alex Ferguson.
