Riyad Mahrez Targets Champions League Win With Manchester City

Riyad Mahrez says Champions League is for big clubs in Europe.

The 27-year-old Algerian forward says winning the European competition is the major reason he joined Manchester City for a club record fee of £60million from Leicester City.

Mahrez explained: “It’s a club who wants to win this type of trophy. The Champions League is for big clubs and Manchester City are a big club. They have everything to try to win the Champions League.

“It is a goal. Last season they lost in the quarter-final and I know they have the ambition to go further the next season. That’s why I’m here, why I made the decision to come here because I want to be part of this.”

Mahrez netted 48 goals in 179 appearances for Leicester – who won the 2016 Premier League title – will be playing at the Etihad Stadium along with Man City stars including Kevin de Bruyne, Sergio Aguero, Leroy Sane, Raheem Sterling and Gabriel Jesus when the season starts. “I never thought about this. I am very confident about myself,” he adds.
