Two of Manchester City’s players have tested positive for the deadly Coronavirus and are in major doubt to take part in the side’s opening day game. The club officially announced that Riyad Mahrez and Aymeric Laporte have both tested positive for the COVID-19 virus.
The club further announced that the pair are self-isolating and following the necessary protocols, and at the moment unclear when the pair would be able to join up with the team as Pep Guardiola prepares his side for the new season.
A statement on City’s website read:
“Manchester City FC can confirm that Riyad Mahrez and Aymeric Laporte have tested positive for Covid-19.
“Both players are currently observing a period of self-isolation in accordance with Premier League and UK Government protocol on quarantine. Neither is displaying symptoms of the virus.
“Everyone at the Club wishes Riyad and Aymeric a speedy recovery ahead of their return to training and the new season.”
