Rivers Police Invites APC Governorship Candidate, Tonye Cole Over Alleged Murder

The Rivers State Police Command has invited the All Progressive Congress governorship candidate, Tonye Cole over his involvement in the violence that broke out in Port Harcourt, the state’s capital on Monday.

It can be recalled that pandemonium had erupted in Port Harcourt after members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) clashed.

River State Commissioner of Police, Okon Effiong confirmed this during a phone conversation with newsmen on Wednesday afternoon.

Speaking on the incident, the CP said the command had invited Tonye Cole and his aides over allegations that his aides shot and killed somebody during the violence. Effiong also mentioned that the Command is also inviting some members of the PDP in course of his investigation.

“Tonye Cole was asked to come with his aides who are policemen because the allegation against him is that his aides shot and killed somebody.”

“On the other side, the Chairman of Ikwerre Local Government, the Deputy Speaker of the House of Assembly, and the Chairman of PHALGA were invited to come and equally help the police with an investigation,” he said.

The police commissioner stated clearly that although two persons were alleged shot and one person dead during the Monday crisis, the police are yet to fully confirm any death as investigation is on-going.

“We’re investigating, the allegation is that two people were shot and one person was killed but we’re now insisting that they should show us the corpse of the person who died and until that is done, we cannot confirm any death. We’ve been able to see the person who was injured and it’s a bullet wound on the leg.”
