Young Nollywood actress Deborah Shokoya more popularly known as Debbie Shokoya born in Lagos, from Ijebu Remo Ogun State is one of the fastest rising female actors of the Yoruba speaking genre of the Nigerian movie industry.
Debbie is the 8th child from a family of 10, she attended primary and secondary education in Lagos and proceeded to the Polytechnic Ibadan where I studied Public Administration.
Debbie Shokoya addresses herself as an uncommon and unusual person because she loves to be an unpredictable person. Which she says affects almost all sphere of her life from fashion to her personality.
Debbie says she’s a daring person who is comfortable acting romantic roles but can never go naked to interpret a role. Debbie came into limelight with the Yoruba movie “Aye Loja”. The movie featured Ibrahim Chatta, Tunde Owokoniran, Dele Odunle, and Peju Ogunmola. Debbie said she got into acting through the movie caucus called ‘Creative Man’ owned by John Olakunle Da’silva, where she got trained to be an actress and kept pushing all by myself to date.
Debbie has noted that her biggest influences in the movie industry are Ibrahim Chatta, the timeless Richard Mofe-Damijo RMD, veteran Yoruba Nolly actor Dele Odule, Peju Ogunmola and finally Toyin Abraham who she had special reservations for due to the level of energy she puts into interpreting her roles.
