Rema Makes History As His Song ‘Calm Down’ Hits 400 Million Views On YouTube

Superstar singer, Rema set precedent as the visual for his song ‘calm down’ becomes the highest streaming music video in Africa.

Nigerian music scene has witnessed a tremendous shift over the past decades. Gone are the days when Nigerian singers struggled for international recognition, nowadays westerners happily rock Afrobeat sound. One of the Nigerian music artists making waves not only in Africa but in the world at large is Rema.

Rema was born Divine Ikubor in Benin City. He started his career as a young signee under Dprince’s record label ‘Jonzing World’ in 2018. His first single Dumebi became a massive hit and catapulted him to the hall of fame.

In 2019, one of his other most popular songs from the EP gained more popularity when it was placed on the former president of the United States of America, Barack Obama’s summer playlist.

Rema, released his song ‘calm down’ on February 11 2022, it became a global hit, topping international music chart for over a month. On August 26, 2022, he released a remix of the same song with Selena Gomez, which debuted at number 91 on Billboard Hot 100. The visual for this single has gathered over 400 million views on Youtube becoming one of the most viewed music video in Africa.
