Review: 10 Top Events That Took Place During The Weekend

The past weekend was one full of many activities for the Nigerian community, as well as other nations, just like every other day. From the Fulani herdsmen notice to quit and woes in the South West, down to the announcements of joy and celebrations, even deaths, a lot took place.
In the bid to keep you abreast of things and event as they happen, here is a recap of the top events for the past weekend.
  1. Nigerian slept on Friday and woke to the reports of chaos in Oyo State as popular businessman cum activist, Sunday Igboho and his men stormed Igangan town to chase away Fulani herdsmen from the community. Oyo youths in their hundreds and loyalists of the businessman came out in their hundreds following the expiration of the ultimatum Sunday gave the herdsmen over the allegations of killing and kidnapping. Oyo State was infuriated and ordered the arrest of ‘anyone’ who tries to alter the peace of the state but Sunday Igboho and his men wouldn’t have it, and Sunday Igboho’s mother promises trouble, should he be arrested. Many parties and groups weighed into the feud, including Miyetti Allah, MURIC and so many other individuals, majority calling on the FG and Oyo State Government to tackle insecurity and restructure the nation. Amidst all of these, the National Assembly has decided to postpone its resumption.
  2. Lovers of CNN and the amazing American TV presenter Larry King were thrown into mourning as the longtime CNN host passed on to great beyond. He was reported dead on Saturday at the age of 87. Larry King hosted the ‘Larry King Live’ on CNN for over 25 years, interviewing presidential candidates, celebrities, athletes, movie stars and everyday people, and became an icon through his interviews with his sartorial sensibilities.
  3. Naira Marley and the entire Marlians nation got a slap on their face on Saturday after some school boys were arrested by Amotekun officials for modelling him. This didn’t go down well for the Soapy crooner who described the act as child abuse and opined that the security officials be arrested.
  4. Dangote’s bumbum was out on social media again in just the first month of the new year, and this time again, it is still his acclaimed side chic dragging him. Miss Allarounda took to Instagram to accuse the of trying to buy her silence and when she refused they have dragged her to court all in a bid to keep her silent from talking about their time/relationship together.   5. BBNaija Ike had again brought his matter with his ex-lover Mercy Eke into 2021, revealing the exact reason they broke up. According to him, he gave too much love in the relationship but Mercy didn’t reciprocate same.
  6. It was celebration galore for Nollywood actress Kemi Afolabi as she completes and shows of her new house on The Gram, followed by veteran Yoruba actor Dele Odule, who also, just completed his house.
  7. Meanwhile, another loss was recorded in the industry as  Dan Nkoloagu transcended to the great beyond at 83. His son had announced the death in an Instagram post on Saturday, revealing that the past day, Friday, in which the ace actor died, was a black one for the family.
  8. A Nigerian tweep recalled an event which ensued between her an an Uber driver, and this led to serious controversy and argument on the streets of Twitter. She had given the rider an extra 100 naira with his original fare, but the man decline receipt, asking her to use her right hand. The tweep, however, withdrew her extra naira, and made a transfer of the original fair, and the driver was shocked. While many on the streets criticised her, giving reasons why right hand is the most appropriate, others, think it is no big deal. This conversation was not too hot with a lot of gbas gbos, comparisons and opinions.
  9. While Don Jazzy was busy promoting his new signed act, Ayra Starr, Banky W is seriously serious about the business of coming back into music as he announced his soon to be released work Final Say. Not sure of what many will feel, Banky W thought to check out who is ready for the masterpiece produced by Cobhams Asouquo.
  10. Filmhouse cinemas, VI, saw the presence of the KOKO TV team, selected celebrities and superstars, and well-wishers as Nollywood actor, director, writer and producer Seyi Babatope aired the screening/private listening on his latest movie, Sanitation Day on Sunday 25th. Having released the trailer a month ago, many Nigerians cannot wait to see this suspense and drama-filled body of work, starring Blossom Chukwujekwu, Chuks Chyk, Belinda Effah, Tobi Bakre, Nse Ikpe-Etim, BBNaija Elozonam, Adebayo Salami and many more.
