Real Madrid are reportedly in pole position to sign out-of-favour Paris St-Germain midfielder Adrien Rabiot, according to the Mirror. AS claims PSG believe an agreement may have already been reached between Rabiot and the European Champions. The 23-year-old has not featured for the Ligue 1 leaders since December after failing to agree a new contract.
The Frenchman, who will become a free agent in the summer, was also suspended by the club for misconduct after the Champions League defeat to Manchester United. It is understood Liverpool and Arsenal have shown an interest in the Rabiot, who once worked with Gunners boss Unai Emery in the French capital. Barcelona looked to be on the cusp of signing Rabiot on a pre-contract agreement but the club and player were unable to settle terms. This development opened an opportunity for Real Madrid and returning manager Zinedine Zidane. Zidane had been keen on signing the midfielder last summer before his unexpected decision to leave the club, despite winning having won the Champions League. Los Blancos are searching for a long-term replacement for the ageing Luka Modric, with Paul Pogba also thought to be a target. However, free agent Rabiot would be a much cheaper option than his compatriot. Photo Credit: Getty
