In a statement shared on its website, NIMC announced that Nigerians are now to pay a sum of 3,000 naira in order to renew the identity card when it expires and a sum of 5,000 naira for replacement if lost. The commission also confirms the news in a series of tweet via its official handle, in reply to the queries f curious tweeps. The development, however, did not go down well with tweeps who see it as a means of extortion. Majority are of the opinion that the means of identification should not expire as it is important for every citizen to own.
