The Nigerian Basketball Federation NBBF has slammed American TV Presenter and Commentator, Stephen A. Smith for his xenophobic comment.
Stephen Smith had in an TV show, First Take, mispronounced the name of the Nigerian team, as well as slander the players, drawing the rage of Nigerians. This is coming after the Nigeria’s senior basketball team pulled off a shocking win over the United States of America in the early hours of Sunday 11th July.As if this was not enough, he went ahead on Twitter to share the video, saying “this is what needs to be said about Team USA!!!!”. This got the attention of some members of D’Tigers, the NBBF as well as many Nigerians and they did not hesitate to caution the media personality.
In a reply, the NBBF demanded that Smith puts some respect to the names of the Nigerian players, saying he could mourn his nation’s loss without slandering anyone. “You can lament your loss without slandering the players who gave blood and sweat to grind out a win Put some respect their names”, the NBBF fired.
