Protest In Sierra Leone Over High Cost Of Living(Video)

Some citizens of Sierra Leone on Wednesday protested in parts of the capital, Freetown and other locations over the increased cost of living among other concerns.

Videos from the protests showed there were breakouts of violence. An internet blockade has also been reported with a curfew imposed.

Vice President Mohamed Juldeh Jalloh declared a nationwide curfew on Wednesday from 3 p.m. local time (11 a.m. ET) while President Julius Maada Bio is out of the country.
“These unscrupulous individuals have embarked on a violent and unauthorized protest which has led to the loss of lives of innocent Sierra Leoneans including security personnel,” the Vice President said.
In a tweet, the US Embassy in Freetown appealed for “calm and restraint on all sides.”
