Women In Medicine: Salamat Ahuozia Aliu Is The Renowned ‘Mother Of Doctors’

The mother of doctors as she is often called, Salamat Ahuozia Aliu is a woman that sets the pace for other women.

She attended medical school at the University of Ilorin where she got her first degree. She trained and specialized in neurosurgery at Usmanu Danfodiyo University. She graduated with honours in 2004 receiving several awards at graduation amongst which was the Best Student in First Professional MBBS Examination, Best All-Round Female Graduating Student, Second Overall Best Graduating Student, Best Graduating Student in Internal Medicine, Obstetrics and Gynaecology, and Community Based Experience and Services. She also obtained a distinction in Pathology.
Family
Salamat Ahuoiza Aliu is married and she has five daughters who surprisingly are all doctors. Her family is known as the family of doctors.

Achievement
Salamat Ahuozia Aliu is the first female neurosurgeon in West Africa. She is also the first indigenous-trained female neurosurgeon in Nigeria. Noted for her exceptional work in neurosurgery and encouragement of women to join the neurological field, Aliu was listed in the top 100 persons of the year by Arewa socio-political group in 2016.
