Former Presidential Candidate Bashiru Tofa Who Competed Against MKO Abiola At The 1993 Elections Is Dead

The elder statesman reportedly passed away in the early hours of Monday, January 3, 2022, at Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital, Kano after a brief illness.

A close associate of the deceased, Magaji Galadima (Kachallan Kano), announced the death in a Facebook post.

Mr Galadima wrote: “Allahu akbar, we eventually lost Alh. Bashir Tofa. May Allah grant him eternal rest.”

Tofa contested and lost a presidential election against late Chief Moshood Abiola, an election that was later annulled by General Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida.

The politician was rumoured to have died last year but the news of his death was refuted by a family friend who said he was still alive but critically sick.

The business tycoon will be buried today in line with Islamic rites.
