President Buhari Extends IGP’s Tenure By 3 Months

President Buhari has extended the tenure of the Inspector general of Police Mohammed Adamu for three months. The Minister of Police Affairs, Mohammad Dingyadi, announced this on Thursday while addressing correspondents at the presidential villa.

The minister said the extension was necessary to give room for the proper selection of a successor who will fill the shoes of the IGP. Mohammed Adamu’s tenure ended on the 1st of February,2021 after completing his 35 years in service that is the most allowed of any police officer in Nigeria. Since his last day in office questions about who his replacement will be has been raised with people clamoring for an Igbo Inspector General of police.

The incumbent IGP, Mohammed Adamu who was enlisted into the Nigerian Police Force on February 2, 1986, has of today completed his 35-years maximum service years stay in the Police force. IGP Mohammed Adamu was appointed as the IGP by president Buhari in January 2019, he has spent two years in office and will turn 60 by September 17.
