Pregnant Woman’s Twin Babies Saved After Gunman Fatally Shoots Her In The Head On Christmas Eve Traffic Jam

A pair of twins have been saved after their mum was fatally shot in the head while 36 weeks pregnant with them.

Ana Carolina Alhende Aquino was killed on Christmas Eve while sat in traffic, when a gunman tried to kill her husband, Gabriel de Abreu Silva.

She also has two other children, a boy and a girl aged 11 and 7, who had to face Christmas Day, and now a lifetime without their mother.

Just 24 hours before she was brutally gunned down, the Ana had posted pictures of her caressing her baby bump on social media, local news reports.

In the pictures, she posed among Christmas decorations and presents, while cradling her bump with the two babies – both girls – inside. The pair were attacked in Ponta Pora, Brazil on the border with Paraguay, and so far no one has been arrested for the shooting.

According to reports, the victim was with her husband in their car when another vehicle drew up alongside them and a gunman got out.

The gunman reportedly fired eight times as Gabriel accelerated towards him.

Gabriel, the alleged target of the attack, was wounded in the arm while his wife was shot in the head.

Even though he was wounded, police said he was still able to drive to a local fire station to get help.

The police said Ana was still alive when she was taken to the Hospital Regional de Ponta Pora, where doctors performed emergency surgery to deliver her twin daughters, who were born at 36 weeks.

Both of the babies are perfectly healthy and not in any dangers, the hospital said, but Ana sadly succumbed to her injuries.

Her husband is still being treated for his arm injury and is in a stable condition.

The police investigation, including into Gabriel’s activities, the suspected target of the gun attack, is ongoing.
