Politician Punched Wife In The Face For Taking Too Long To Undress For Sex

A politician punched his wife in the face after getting angry with her for taking too long to undress for sex, police say.

Douglas McLeod, a 58-year-old Mississippi state Representative, was arrested on Saturday night after he allegedly battered his wife in the face, bloodying her nose in their bedroom.

When police arrived at McLeod’s house, he answered the door with a glass of alcohol in his hand and said ‘Are you kidding me?’ when officers told him a domestic assault had been reported. McLeod went back into his home and shouted ‘the cops are here,’ then returned back to the front door and began walking outside.

Officers wrote: Mr McLeod had slurred speech and walked slow in a zigzag pattern,’ adding that he had to hold onto a hand rail to maintain his balance in his inebriated state. He attempted to explain to deputies that everything was alright, but they were unable to understand him because of his slurred speech.

Inside the home, two women were standing at the top of a stairwell. Officers described them both as appearing frightened. McLeod’s wife eventually came outside to speak with deputies after the assured her they would keep her husband away. Police said that McLeod’s wife, who was shaking and upset, told them that her husband ‘just snapped’ as he often does when he is drinking, an arrest report said.

Another woman who was in the home said McLeod’s wife came running into her room, her face bloodied, and the two women barricaded themselves in the room. The woman said McLeod began banging on the door and telling them to open it, threatening that he would ‘kill her (expletive) dog.’ Deputies later found blood on the couple’s bed, as well as the floor of their bedroom. McLeod was taken to the George County jail and charged with misdemeanor domestic violence. He was released on a $1,000 signature bond. Since the incident, other Mississippi politicians have asked for McLeod to resign from his position.

House speaker Philip Gunn released this statement on Tuesday: ‘I have attempted to contact Rep. McLeod to request his resignation, if in fact, these allegations are true. These actions are unacceptable for anyone.’
