Policemen Who Brutalised Kwara Youth With AK-47 Rifle Face Disciplinary Actions In Abuja

The Nigeria Police Force Headquarters, Abuja, has begun disciplinary actions for some police officers attached to the Kwara State Police Command who were captured in a viral video where they were seen hitting a young man with their guns.

KOKO TV NG had reported that the incident occurred on Tuesday September 12 at the Post Office in the Ilorin area of the state.

Witnesses had said that the young man whose identity could not be ascertained was reportedly walking on the street with his girlfriend and on approaching a police checkpoint, the officers in the viral video grabbed him and accused him of being a fraudster, more commonly called “Yahoo boy.”

Giving an update on the matter on Tuesday, the Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, in a short statement on X (formerly Twitter) said that the officers and their commander had reported at the Force Headquarters in Abuja and had been referred to the Force Provost Marshal where they would face disciplinary actions.

Adejobi in the statement he tagged, “Incident of Police Misconduct in Kwara State” said, “We have taken action in response to the recent incident involving officers from Kwara State Police Command who were captured assaulting a member of the public in a viral video.

“Such conduct is unacceptable and goes against the principles of the Force. The officers in question have reported at the Force Headquarters, Abuja, along with their commander.

“They have been referred to the Force Provost Marshal, where they will face disciplinary actions. We remain committed to upholding the highest standards of professionalism and accountability within the force.”
