Phil Jones Signs New Contract With Man United, Question Is Does He Deserve It???

Phil Jones has signed a new contract with Manchester United, committing the defender to the Old Trafford club until 2023. The England international centre half, 26, has featured regularly since interim manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer took over at the club. United have the option to extend the new deal by a further year if they wish. His existing contract was set to expire this coming summer. Jones said: ‘I am delighted to have signed a new contract. Manchester United has been a big part of my life for eight years and I love everything about this club. ‘I am excited about the challenges that lie ahead of us as we prepare for a very busy period in the season. I would like to thank Ole and the coaching staff for their continued support in my development.’ Solskjaer said: ‘Phil knows what it takes to be a Manchester United player, he has won the Premier League, FA Cup and Europa League and is now one of the senior players within the team.  ‘He is coming up to his 27th birthday and entering into his prime years as a centre half. We are delighted Phil has committed his future to the club.’ Jones has played 208 times for United and scored five goals since he arrived from Blackburn Rovers in 2011. That time has seen him win the Premier League, the FA Cup and the UEFA Europa League. Jones is the third United player, after Scott McTominay and Anthony Martial, to be given a new contract since Solskjaer replaced the sacked Jose Mourinho in December.  Fellow defender Ashley Young, 33, is close to agreeing a new one-year contract at United. It’s understandable that Ole is trying to secure his future at the club and get the best out the players available to him, but in the terms of quality, ability and what a player gives a team Phil Jones has no reason to still be a Manchester United player he his one of the longest-serving player currently on that team but looks shabby, less-convincing as by the season– In his last 9 seasons at the team he his yet to complete 20 games without picking up an injury and leaving the team short and he his the defender in the United team with the highest Own-goal scored.
