Pastor Mrs joy Ajanaku, the widow of the deceased clergy Iretiola Ajanaku of Christ Revival Victory Chapel International has spoken on the controversy that surrounded her husband’s death and burial.
Recall that Prophet Elijah Iretiola Ajanaku had passed on on Saturday, August 17, 2013, at Gbongan, Osun State, after which controversy arose of him belonging to an occult group which would have his body parts mutilated and handle his burial ceremony. Modern Ghana in an August 23,2013 report said, “a very reliable source whispered that, two days ago, 27 Ogboni members visited his place and were said to have asked every occupant to evacuate his room. Having spent some time with his corpse, they left, a close source revealed”.
Speaking 8 years after, his wife, who had taken over the church, debunked the rumour. “There is nothing like the occult men coming to our house compound. You see the people closer to one are the ones that betray one the most, even one’s biological sibling. I really do not like to talk about what happened then because I have tried to forgive all this who came up with the story then. They were very close to Daddy, they thought he left so much money because he was a philanthropists, even his family members believed he left millions with me. Then there was conspiracy then that he belonged to the occult group and they needed 3 million to stop the members from coming to disrupt the burial. They though I was a novice to these things or young but I carry the grace of God”, she said in a code-switched Yoruba and English.

“At this time, we had not picked a day for his burial because personally when he slept in the Lord, I asked that he be brought home and had him laid in his room. I was praying and believing that the would come back to life because I thought someone as wonderful as that should not go just like that – he must still have things to do on earth. I believed I would die before him, though he’s older than I was, because I felt I was useless to God and this useful msn couldn’t just go like that. People even thought I was running mad but when I began hearing reports that some people wanted to move his body, I asked that we took him to the mortuary. During that time some of his family members came to meet me demanding 3 million naira so he wouldn’t be exposed. I said I would like to have a word with the occults so if they wanted to come let them come. They only planned with the occult members to come into the street to scare people away just to invade the home”, she added. Watch her speak below:
This further backed up Encomium.ng’s 29th July report that, “most of the visitors who thronged the funeral came with the aim of confirming if indeed his corpse was still intact or has been tampered with by traditionlists as widely rumoured. However, they came, they saw and believed that against the widespread rumour, his corpse was still intact and no part was mutilated. The officiating ministers in order to dispel the rumour opened the casket and gave everybody one on one opportunity to check the corpse. That was when most people believed and commented ‘so it was a rumour all these while”.

“Initially, the church members were jubilant that at last they had convinced everybody that their leader was not involved in occultism as speculated and even boasted the funeral was not a mourning event but when the casket was opened and they saw the lifeless body of their hero in an all white ensemble, even the strongest among them couldn’t fight back the tears”, the report added.
