Ahead of the Osun State All Progressive Congress (APC) primary election to elect its flag bearer in the July 2022 governorship election, a civil society organization, Centre for Democracy and Socio-Economic Rights (CEDESER), has advised the concerned politicians to avoid violence and all forms of undemocratic tendencies and tactics.
The primary election which is scheduled for tomorrow, Saturday, 19th February, will see Governor Oyetola go toe to toe against his opponents, a former Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Lasun Yusuff and former Secretary to the State Government, Alhaji Moshood Adeoti.
In a statement issued Friday by its President, Comrade Michael Popoola Ajayi, CEDESER said its counsel became necessary in the light of the recent outbursts by key APC leaders and gladiators in Osun.
Ajayi said: “We want to use this medium to appeal to the leaders and their supporters to ensure a violent free, transparent and fair primary election andbe ready to accept the outcomes of the poll in good faith.”
Speaking further, the group also enjoined the leadership of the party in Osun and the contending groups not to embark on any adventure that could threaten the fragile peace in the State through any form of undemocratic tactics in their desperation to be victorious at the poll.
The group also advised the Kwara State Governor AbdulRahman Abdulrazak-led team, saddled with the responsibility of superintending the primary by the national leadership of the party, to ensure that all party guidelines were duly followed for the conduct of the election.
CEDESER urged the Governor to see that no member of the party was denied the opportunity to freely vote for the candidate of his choice.
Prior to this election, there has been lingering tension between the camp of the incumbent governor Oyetola and that of his successor Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola. With the latter accusing the APC nation leader, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, of playing godfatherism in Osun state.
