Omo Wa The Movie: Dolapo Oni, Noble Igwe, Others Discuss The Realities Of Parenting At Movie Premiere

Nigeria’s leading presenter and producer, Marcy Dolapo Oni Sijuwade had the private screening of her short movie Omo Wa go down yesterday at the Filmhouse Cinemas, Lekki, sparking a necessary discussion and conversation about the realities of parenting.
The short film shows the struggles of a pregnant lady Shalewa, acted by Marcy Oni Sijuwade herself, who is trying to overcome challenges with her husband Folarin (Baaj Adebule) as they both struggle with the impending responsibilities in their relationship. They had maneuvered their way through their relationship and it seems well and straight forward till marriage until Shalewa gets pregnant and it becomes clear they are not on the same page.

While becoming a parent, in theory, sounds wonderful, the reality of it becomes all too daunting for Folarin as his wife adds some fats here and there and he could not come to terms to live with her. Salewa, on the other hand, didn’t see this coming, she must have thought of the best pregnancy period with the love of her life only for her hopes to be dashed and her home destroyed.
A panel of 7-members consisting the lead actress and Executive Producer of the movie, the lead actor Baaj Adebule, the Director Seyi Babatope, OAP Oscar in the city, media personality Noble Igwe, author Anita Okoye and My Lighthouse’s Bolatito Bez-Idakula discussed the movie, torchlighting the unreadiness and unpreparedness of the man towards the reality of becoming a father.Marcy Dolapo Oni Sijuwade, Others Discuss Realities of Parenting At Omo Wa Movie Premiere While Oscar is of the opinion that men are usually not prepped for the reality of what marriage and parenting in comparison with women, Dolapo stated that nothing and no one can prepare another person for the journey of parenting except the reality itself of the pregnancy and the presence of the baby(ies). She then preached on the need to identify and know one’s self truly before joining another person for the journey of marriage. Speaking on what influenced the short movie, Dolapo Marcy Oni Sijuwade disclosed that she has always wanted to do something about relationships, be it romantic or friendship and the movie is just one of the avenues she has chosen. Rounding off the panel session, the actress and producer noted that once an individual is old enough to have sex and marry, he or she is also old enough to carry responsibilities, and should live up to it rather than leave it to one person.
