Oko Iyabo: Lagos To Prosecute Yomi Fabiyi For Contempt

The Lagos State Directorate of Public Prosecution DPP has said it will prosecute Yoruba Nollywod actor, Yomi Fabiyi, for contempt of court over the production of his movie, Oko Iyabo.

Recall that Yomi Fabiyi had made a movie mirroring the ongoing molestation and child defilement case laid against his colleague Omiyinka Olanrewaju aka Baba Ijesha. Yomi Fabiyi in the movie, portrayed Baba Ijesha as being innocent of the charges against him in the movie, while hinting that he and the victim had a consensual affair.Oko Iyabo: Lagos To Prosecute Yomi Fabiyi For ContemptThe movie has drawn so much backlash and controversy from viewers and celebrities alike, and had led to many people reporting the video on YouTube. Still, Yomi, who has since the backlash made the movie private, directed that anyone who needs to see it should ask for it.

As the case resumed trial today, the DPP director and prosecution counsel, Olayinka Adeyemi, mentioned at the court that Yomi Fabiyi made a movie from the facts of Baba Ijesha’s ongoing alleged rape case using the real names of the defendants and the survivor of the case. Stating that this act is contempt and the DPP plans to prosecute him, Adeyemi added that the application of the prosecution seeks to exclude him from the court proceedings.Oko Iyabo: Lagos To Prosecute Yomi Fabiyi For Contempt“Despite the warnings of this honourable court, an actor called Yomi Fabiyi went ahead and made a movie about the facts of this case. He used the real names of the parties and witnesses in this matter in the movie. Our application is to exclude him, his privies and his agents from proceedings in court. He is not in court at the moment but his representatives may be in court. This is contempt of court and we intend to prosecute him and bring him before this court”, she said.

Responding, the judge, Oluwatoyin Taiwo stated that the case is subjudice and no one is to be making videos and disparaging comments on social media. Promising that the matter will be investigated, she said, “This case is subjudice and you are not to be making videos and disparaging comments on social media.
