Tim Henman said: “No doubt it is right decision.”It happened to me in 1995. We were up two sets in the doubles. I hit a ball-girl in the ear. Djokovic was not aiming for the line judge, but you have to be responsible for your actions. There is no other result but to be defaulted.”

Djokovic’s stunning exit means there will be a new men’s Grand Slam champion.

GB Davis Cup captain Leon Smith added: “I was surprised he didn’t get a warning for the first one moments earlier. He didn’t. There has to be consistency, if hitting ball with that much venom and temper call a warning. The second one can be dangerous and so it proved to be.”

The Grand Slam rulebook states: “Players shall not at nay time physcially abuse any official opponent, spectator or other person within the precincts of the tournament site. Violation of the section shall subject a player to a fine up to $20,000 for each violation.

“In addition, if such violation occurs during a match (including the warm-up), the player shall be penalised in accordance with the point penaly schedule hereinafter set forth.”Photo Credit: Getty
