Reality TV star Kim Kardashian West has issued a lengthy response to trolls who have made fun of her decision to study law.
The reality TV star said in a statement posted online that she was working all day and spending her nights studying to “follow a dream”. It comes after her studies were revealed in a recent interview.
The 38-year-old is currently preparing for the “baby bar” legal exam after coming to the end of her first of four years of learning. In a post on Twitter and Instagram addressing criticism she has received since the interview was published, Kardashian West said: “I’ve seen some comments from people who are saying it’s my privilege or my money that got me here, but that’s not the case. One person actually said I should ‘stay in my lane’. I want people to understand that there is nothing that should limit your pursuit of your dreams, and the accomplishment of new goals. You can create your own lanes, just as I am.”
Kardashian West registered with the California State Bar, the official attorney licensing agency, last year, after playing a part in the release of a prisoner who was jailed over a non-violent drug charge in Alabama in 1996. “The state bar doesn’t care who you are,” she said in her post. “This option is available to anyone who’s (sic) state allows it.”
She also addressed those who have questioned how she can study law when she did not finish college. “It’s true I did not finish college,” she said. “You need 60 college credits (I had 75) to take part in ‘reading the law’, which is an office law school being apprenticed by lawyers. For anyone assuming this is the easy way out, it’s not. My weekends are spent away from my kids while I read and study. I work all day, put my kids to bed and spend my nights studying. There are times I feel overwhelmed and when I feel like I can’t do it but I get the pep talks I need from the people around me supporting me. I changed my number last year and disconnected from everyone because I have made this strict commitment to follow a dream of mine – it’s never too late to follow your dreams.”
Kardashian West finished by saying: “This week I have a big torts essay due on negligence. Wish me luck.” Kardashian West’s late father was lawyer Robert Kardashian, who was a member of OJ Simpson’s defence team. The star is being mentored by two lawyers who are helping her log her required 18 hours of weekly supervised study. She is currently getting ready to welcome her fourth child with husband Kanye West, via a surrogate.
